The Ranganathaswamy Temple

Trichy or Tiruchi, also called Tiruchirappalli, is a city in Tamil Nadu known for beinga major industrial and educational hub. The city has even earned the title of ‘Energy equipment and fabrication capital of India’ owing to the presence of a large number of energy equipment manufacturing units. It is also known for a brand of cigarlargely exported since the colonial era called the Trichinopoly cigar. In addition, it was listed as the second-most cleanest city in India in 2015.

The Ranganathaswamy Temple
Located on Srirangamisland, it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and has his sleeping form. It is known for being the largest functioning Hindu temple in the world having a perimeter of more than 13,500 feet and occupying around 156 acres of land. It houses 21 gopurams with the Rajagopuram being around 236 feet tall. Also regarded to be amongst the 108 Divya Desams (holy shrines of Lord Vishnu), it is believed to house the mortal remains of the Vaishnavite saint and philosopher Ramanujacharya.

Jambukeshwara Temple
Built during the reign of the Medieval Cholas, it is one of the PanchaBhootaSthalams (five elements namely water, earth, air, fire and ether) dedicated to Lord Shiva. Being the fifth largest temple complex in Tamil Nadu, it not only is an appusthala (representing water) but it also has elaborate architectural forms.

The Rockfort
Standing on a rock at a height of over 273feet and on a rock, it is regarded as one of the most splendid fortresses in Trichy. It has a set of monolithic rocks accommodating many rock-cut cave temples. The temple complex has threeshrines with two dedicated to Lord Ganesha— one at the foot and the UcchiPillayar Temple at the top along with the Thayumanavar Temple, dedicated to Goddess Parvati and the largest of the three,in the midst. This place is visible from everywhere and one can enjoy breath-taking views of the city and the Cauvery River from the top. Having a mandapa, one can even enjoy boat riding facilities here. Top it, the Teppakulam at the foot is surrounded by bazaars.

The ChokkanathaNayak Palace
Built by the Madurai Nayaks during the 17th century, it is home to the Rani MangammalMahal which has now been converted into a museum.

How to Reach
Trichy is well connected by air through the Tiruchirappalli Airport (around 54 km) and by rail via Trichy Railway Station.
