Vivekananda Rock Memorial

Kanyakumari, formerly known as Cape Comorin, is a town in Tamil Nadu famous for being the southernmost tip of peninsular India. It is also the confluence point of The Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean and is named after Devi KanyaKumari temple which makes it a breathtakingly beautiful destination. Moreover, it has unique geographical advantages where one can view both the sunrise and the sunset at the same beach and also indulge both in religious and leisure opportunities.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial
Located about hundred meters from the shore, it is famous for two Mandaps—one dedicated to Swami Vivekananda and the other dedicated to a Holy Foot, a foot-shaped carving on the rock which is believed to be of Goddess Kumari. The memorial even has a tall statue of Swami Vivekananda where he’s believed to have attained ‘Samadhi’. This point is also famous for the spectacular sunrise and sunset.

Thiruvalluvar Statue
Dedicated to the greatest Tamil poet, philosopher and saint Thiruvalluvar, it is a huge structure of the saint carved out of many rocks joined together. About 133 feet long, it relates to 133 chapters in the greatest epic written by the saint. One can also climb up to the feet of the statue to experience an amazing view. Even a place dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi called Gandhi Mandapam exists here.

Tsunami Memorial Park
Located near the south shore, it houses a monument built in the memory of the tragic events of the 2004 tsunami.

Tirparapu Waterfalls
At the descent of the Kodayar river is the Tirparappu Waterfalls which cascades from a height of nearly 50 feet. It offers a breath-taking experience to all the visitors.

Bhagavathy Amman Temple
As said earlier, the town derives its name from the Goddess Kanyakumari Amman. It is a 3000-year old temple and is one of the most visited tourist spots.

Our Lady of Ransom Church
It is a 100-year old churchdedicated to Mother Mary and located on the Bay of Bengal coastline. It has a Gothic style of architecture with a strong Portuguese influence and crowned with a cross of pure gold. It houses a beautiful statue of Mother Mary clad in a saree.

How to Reach
Kanyakumari is well connected by air through Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (90 km) and by rail via Trivandrum station.
