Desert Festival in Jaisalmer

This three day extravaganza takes you to a world where adventure, entertainment and fun galore! Jaisalmer come alive with colours, laughter, music, dance and other fun-filled activities during the Desert Festival. It is held every year in the month of January or February on the golden sand of the Thar Desert. It is organized by the Department of Tourism of Rajasthan.

It is a perfect festival where you can experience the charm of Rajasthan. The inception of the festival is marked with a ceremonial procession, locally called Shobha Yatra wherein the local Rajputs and other clans dressed royally flaunting swords atop horses, camels and elephants enter the Shahid Poonam Singh Stadium (one of the main venues of the festival) as they enter it.

Another venue of the festival is against the backdrop of the Jaisalmer Fort where traditional dance and music performances, camel rides, camel tug-of-war, turban tying competition, the longest moustache competition, camel race leave the onlookers joyful. The festival is also the time to treat your taste-buds with a variety of Rajasthani delicacies. Fireworks are yet another highlight of the festival which set the fort to life.
